You're gonna need a warrant for that: digital privacy case makes its way to Supreme Court
The 21st century meets the 4th Amendment in front of the Supreme Court today. American citizens have a constitutional right against unreasonable search and seizure, but it’s up in the air right now as to whether that applies to their digital footprints. SCOTUS will hear a case to determine if police officers need a warrant to access your cell phone’s location through a cell tower. KSL NewsRadio’s Doug Wright talks to Salt Lake attorney Greg Skordas about the 4th amendment rights involved in Carpenter v. United States and what it could mean for digital privacy moving forward. The Doug Wright Show is hosted by KSL News Radio’s Doug Wright, who also hosts the infamous KSL Movie Show. KSL NewsRadio is part of Bonneville International and based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kim Jong Un doesn't want you to love your mother
We should start a game where Doug Wright reads headlines about Kim Jong Un and you have to guess whether they’re real or from The Onion. This one is legit, but it might be the craziest one yet. Kim Jong Un is not taking President Trump’s sanctions against North Korea well. In a fit of pouting, the dictator banned singing and dancing, then cancelled the nation’s beer festival. As terrible as that is, it’s not even the worst part: Kim Jong Un has banned North Korea’s November Mother’s Day celebration because he is jealous of the love and adoration moms receive. Get Doug’s take on the “crazy fat kid” who’s calling the shots in North Korea in this episode of the Doug Wright Show Podcast on KSL NewsRadio.
A quick and easy guide to surviving your family this Thanksgiving
It’s the stuff of nightmares: everything seems to be going fine and dandy during Thanksgiving Dinner, until Uncle Richard pipes up with his thoughts on immigration. Before you know it, the whole conversation devolves into a mess of politics, belittling and hurt feelings. How do you avoid the turmoil this Thanksgiving? If all else fails and the conversation does take a turn for the partisan, how do you get back on safe ground? KSL NewsRadio’s Doug Wright talks to Melanie Cox, a Marriage and Family Therapist at Redwood Family Therapy, about how to navigate political landmines this Thanksgiving and keep your family relationships healthy when the conversation gets heated.
Need a building demolished in SLC? Good luck with that.
Let’s pretend you have an unsightly, totally falling apart, dilapidated building on your property. You ask the city for permission to demolish it, but due to the building’s historic nature, you are denied and have to send your case to an appeals board. You file the paperwork, dot the i’s, cross the t’s and send your request to the proper office. What happens next? Absolutely nothing. Why? The Salt Lake City Demolition Appeals Board has zero active members and hasn’t taken action on anything in almost five years. Ridiculous, right? This is the situation the owners of The Otherside Academy find themselves in right now. They want to expand their operations, and as a training and transitional facility for former drug addicts and criminals, they want to keep their clients safe. The problem lies in a deserted, ransacked house on their property that attracts vagrants, drug users and violent criminals to their campus. The city refuses to grant them permission to tear down the destroyed building so they can rebuild it into something useful. Otherside’s Chairman of the Board Joseph Grenny talk to KSL NewsRadio’s Doug Wright about the bureaucratic mess the nonprofit has encountered and what they plan to do to get the city’s attention.
