Grammy-winning Mariachi Ensemble to Perform for Weber State Community

OGDEN, Utah – Flor de Toloache, the critically-acclaimed all-female mariachi group, will perform their signature blend of progressive and traditional mariachi music at a virtual concert hosted by Weber State University’s Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities on Friday, February 5, 2021, at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets to the virtual event are free to the public and can be reserved at weber.edu/artscalendar. The event will also be streamed to the Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities Facebook page. Expected to last 45 minutes, the bilingual performance is the feature event of the Browning Presents! series for Spring of 2021.

“In these difficult times, a mariachi performance will be like medicine to our souls to embrace beautiful music and a taste of Mexican culture,” says Luis Lopez, Director of WSU’s Community Engagement Center. “I am thrilled and looking forward to the performance of the highly renowned mariachi band Flor de Toloache.”

Flor de Toloache is known internationally for the group’s powerful performance energy, intricate vocal runs and clever instrumental arrangements. The group won a Latin Grammy award in 2017 for “Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album” and is referred to as New York City’s “First and Only All-Female Mariachi Group.” While working to preserve centuries-old traditions of mariachi, their fusion of the traditional and the modern pushes the boundaries of the genre and brings mariachi music to new audiences. In addition to touring across the globe to sold-out audiences, Las Flores have collaborated with artists such as John Legend, Miguel and Alex Cuba.

"As a trumpet player and fan of mariachi music, I am so excited for this performance,” says Dr. Deborah Uman, Dean of Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities. “Flor de Toloache is breaking barriers and bringing people together through their amazing music. ¡Estoy tan emocionada!

NO HUNGER ZONE:
CLEARFIELD HIGH OPENS OWN COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY

Students at Clearfield High School raised $63,000 through annual Falcons are Fabulous campaign to open a community food pantry in their school.

CLEARFIELD, UTAH -- One in five children in Davis School District faces food insecurity, meaning he or she may not know where their next meal will come from. When Student Body Officers at Clearfield High learned how prevalent childhood hunger is in their community, they took action. Each year, Clearfield High students participate in a series of fundraisers through their Falcons Are Fabulous campaign and decided to focus this year’s efforts on opening a food pantry in their school. Not only will this pantry serve students at Clearfield High, it will also be open to families in need living near the school.

We invite members of the media to the ribbon-cutting for this food pantry. In partnership with Davis Education Foundation and the Bountiful Food Pantry, the Clearfield Cares Falcon Food Pantry will serve thousands of students and families in the Clearfield area.

ABOUT HOSTS OF EDEN:
Hosts of Eden is a fictional sci-fi podcast, written and performed by storyteller Jay Mcfarland. Set in a dystopian, not-too-distant future, Dr. Marian Turner, a psychiatrist studying Multiple Personality Disorder, lives a mostly ordinary life. Her world is turned upside-down when a patient under her care starts exhibiting unusual symptoms. He claims he is the President of the United States, which seems preposterous until he divulges information only the president could know. Is this a manifestation of another personality or is there something more at play here? Science fiction, fantasy and mystery collide in this serial story.
